Tackling the water scarcity crisis across the world

Imagine a world where you did not have access to clean water? What would that mean for you and your families?

You would not be able to turn on the tap or twist off the cap of a water bottle at any given moment. You would not be able to shower regularly or flush out your immune system when sick.

If you are a woman, you would have to travel multiple miles, each and every day, just to provide your families with clean water. Carrying these heavy jugs of water would take up a majority of your day, often causing you to lose out on receiving an education.

All in all, your life would be drastically different if you did not have access to clean water!

The Problem

Across the world, over 840 million people lack access to clean water, which is a basic human right.

Many other people have access to clean water, but the quantity that they have at their disposal is scarce. In fact, over 40% of the world is affected by water scarcity.

Another issue that relates to water scarcity which is often overlooked is the lack of access to sanitation services. If people lack access to clean and running water, they will also lack basic sanitary infrastructure.

Currently, women and girls have to walk many miles each day just to obtain some water for their families from local rivers and streams. But, the water that they collect is often contaminated and can lead to disease.

Water is the pathway to health. If clean water is accessible, the chances of acquiring a water-borne disease are drastically minimized.

Water is the pathway to education. If clean water is available to everyone, more girls can receive an education, because they will not have to walk every day to get it.

These are only some of the benefits of increasing access to clean water. Water is the pathway to opportunity.

So, what can we do to help? Introducing WE Walk For Water!

WE Walk For Water

This year, Glendale High School will be hosting an event called WE Walk for Water alongside West Ranch High School.

WE Walk for Water is an initiative started by the WE Charity, during which every $25 raised provides someone with access to clean water for life.

This year, the walk will be held virtually on April 3. All participants will upload a picture of the number of steps that they take on April 3.

Everyone is encouraged to hold signs to raise awareness about the cause as they walk. Be sure to take pictures and send them to us via Instagram!

To register for our water walk, check out our website. Once you reach the website, fill out the RSVP Form and pay the $5 registration fee to the GoFundMe page linked on the donate tab. This needs to be completed for every person participating in the walk.

If you would rather just donate, please feel free to donate any amount that you can to our GoFundMe page.

For more information about our walk, including prizes, please visit our website. We can’t wait to walk with you on April 3!

Please spread the word about this walk with your families and friends and share our Instagram posts, because everyone deserves to have access to the basic human need of clean water.
